Fitness Practice: Did the Planned Workout Hold?

A workout log can grow to hundreds of rows without answering the question you face before each session: do the same again, do a little more, or ease off?

Measure whether the plan held

For structured training, the most useful result is simple: did you complete what you planned, as planned? HobbyTrack records it as intervals completed as planned, out of the number you planned: six of eight run intervals, four sets at the planned weight and reps, a circuit finished without stopping.

As planned matters. Finishing by cutting rests short, or by walking the last interval, is useful to know, but it is a different result.

Keep the setup the same

Write the setup down with the plan: durations, rest, terrain or equipment, and how hard it should feel. A faster run or a heavier weight is a different setup, not a better score on the same one. Change one thing at a time, so you know what caused the difference.

Let the result choose the next session

  • Everything completed as planned, and it held on another day: move on by progressing one variable a little.
  • Most but not all: repeat the same plan.
  • Well short, or far harder than intended: change the plan to one you can complete.

That keeps progression gradual and tied to what your body actually did rather than to a calendar.

What HobbyTrack supports

If you run, choose Running when you set up: HobbyTrack has a path from run-walk intervals to comfortable continuous running, and walk-run progression explains when it repeats a session and when it moves on. For gym and other training, you set the plan yourself; HobbyTrack records whether it held and suggests whether to repeat, move on or change it. It does not write strength programmes.

It is not medical or injury advice. If something hurts, stop and get advice from a professional.

How it works day to day

HobbyTrack is a practice planner. You set a goal and it prepares one next step with a clear finish line. For example: six blocks of two minutes easy running and two minutes walking, completed as planned. You record how many held, and it decides the next session and tells you why.

The general version of this loop is in how to track hobby progress. If a streak app keeps pushing you to train through fatigue, see the habit tracker alternative.

Find your first training step

Set one training goal. HobbyTrack gives you one session with a clear finish line and uses what held to choose the next.
